Spay/neuter . . .

Spay/neuter graphic

Spay/neuter your pet!

Each year thousands of adoptable pets are destroyed because there simply are not enough good homes for all of them. Having your animal spayed or neutered is the most loving thing you can do for companion animals in our area.

Area Programs

Maddie's Grant $10 Feral Cat Special: Operation PETS (see below) is the lead agency in a special program to spay/neuter local Erie County feral cats for only $10. Operation PETS also has another grant for feral cats in other contiguous counties (Niagara, Chautauqua, etc), so contact Operation PETS for more details. For those who responsibly look after feral cats, the $10 covers spay/neuter and vaccinations. Additional services are available for an additional charge. Better yet, you don't need an appointment for feral cats (who knows when you'll trap them, after all). Just get them to the clinic in a live trap on surgery days between 7:30 and 8:00am, then come get them at pickup time. You must act quickly to take advantage of this grant opportunity!

Operation PETS: Operation PETS is a 501c3 organization dedicated to helping control the pet population in the WNY area. Opened in August, 2008 - Operation PETS offers high quality, low cost spay/neuter services for low income families, students, rescue groups and shelters and feral cat caretakers. Operation PETS is located at 3443 South Park Ave. in Lackawanna, NY. Dog sterilization costs approximately $80, which includes sterilization, rabies vaccination, distemper/parvo combo vaccination, flea treatment and worming medication. Cat sterilization costs approximately $60 and include sterilization, feline distemper vaccination, rabies vaccination, flea treatment, ear mite treatment and worming medication. A special program for pitbulls offers a reduced price of $20 for those who are eligible. Please call 716-783-8998 for more information and/or to schedule an appointment. Visit the Operation PETS website for all their programs and eligibility guidelines.

Second Chance Sheltering Network offers several excellent spay/neuter programs for both cats and dogs. Low-cost spay and neutering for cats is open to the public with no income restrictions: $80 includes spay/neuter, rabies and distemper vaccinations. Call (716) 652-1359 and leave a message to register for a clinic. A Second Chance Volunteer will return the call and make an appointment. Spay/Neuter for dogs is also available, though the cost is variable depending on the size of the dog. For more information, call (716) 668-3400, or go to the Second Chance Spay/Neuter information page.

Feral Cat Focus offers assistance with feral cat colony management and offers low-cost spay/neuter services as part of their TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release) program. Visit their website for more details.

Why not donate?

We also need your donations to help stem the flow of abused, neglected, and unwanted animals making their way into area shelters. By reducing animal populations, we can not only reduce unwanted animals on our streets, but actually reduce costs associated with animal control and welfare. Did you know that each $1 spent on spay/neuter programs returns at least $5 in animal control savings? It's good for the animals. It's good for the city.
